Cafe Sahara

When I moved to Gilbert  the only sit down restaurant in Gilbert was Dairy Queen. McDonalds hadn’t discovered Gilbert yet. Now we have a lot of wonderful restaurants, more opening everyday. I recently visited a restaurant that had a “Re” opening. What is that you ask? Rabia bought Cafè Sahara about a year ago and changed virtually everything except the name. If you ate at Cafè Sahara a year ago, you haven’t eaten at Cafè Sahara. They now serve Indian and Mediterranean cuisine. I am not really a connissuer of Indian or Mediterranean food, so I didn’t know what to expect. The food was simply outstanding. I had hummus (Garbanzo bean dip with lemon juice, tahini, and garlic), Baba Ghannouj (grilled eggplant with lemon juice and garlic), and Tabouli (Parsley, onion, tomatoes, bulgur wheat, lemon juice and garlic) which is served as a dip with pita bread. Next I tried the Chicken Tikka (marinated and grilled chicken breast), Gyros (grilled strips of Greek-spiced beef topped with tzatzki sauce) and Falafel ( Patties of Fava and Garbanzo beans deep fried with hummus and tabouli. For desert there was Baklava. The beverage was the mos delicious drink I have ever tasted, Mango Lassi, which is a smoothie type of drink made from yogurt and mango.

The food was great, healthy, and really reasonably priced: soup and salad is only $3.95 and their lunch buffet is on at $6.95. All of this and a gracious hostess/owner Rabia. If you are looking for something different than burgers and fries, for about the same price, see me at Cafè Sahara.
