Boy Scouts of America, Troop 312

On October 6 I had the privilege to do one of the most enjoyable things I get to do as mayor: talk to the kids in our town.

In this case it was the Boy Scouts of Troop 312.  These young men are clean cut, attentive and courteous.  Their adult leaders are preparing them well.  The occasion was to help these young men meet one of the requirements for their citizenship for the “nation” merit badge.

The young men and their leaders asked questions ranging from “who pays for roads” to “what are we doing to preserve our farming heritage”.  It was a great meeting and I encouraged the kids to continue their education, learn and understand the constitution and when they are old enough become informed voters, not just voters, but informed voters.

They were a great group of young men and I think they will do great things as they go forward.
