When I first moved to Gilbert in 1981 you had to leave town for most medical attention. Today a full range of medical care is available in Gilbert, including our own Audiologist, Dr. Tina Jessee Au.D. Dr. Jessee has been caring for Gilbert residents for six years and has a wonderful practice. She offers complete hearing evaluations, hearing aids and services, custom molds and assisting listening devices. Dr. Jessee is a Doctor of Audiology, which means that she holds the highest credentials in her field, making her a great choice for your hearing health care. Good Sound Audiology is located at 201 W. Guadalupe #315, just west of Gilbert Rd. The phone number is (480) 497-0780. There are a lot of places you can go for a hearing aid, including mass merchandisers, but Dr. Jessee is the only Audiologist (Doctor) in private practice that is in Gilbert, takes most insurance, and is very pleasant to work with. If you think you might need some help in this area, I strongly recommend you call Dr. Jessee.

Gilbert has a lot of great places to eat, and we just got another one in the Country Cottage Café. Gary and Lynda Halls recently opened what has to be one of the most charming restaurants I have ever been to. The food is great, they call it home made, but I never got a meal like that at home (I hope my wife doesn’t read this) it is just outstanding. They are located at JD’s Homestead 323 S. Gilbert Rd, Suite 107. I personally ate the Country Cottage Signature Salad and Grandma’s Carrot Cake w/Butter Rum Sauce. Everyone seemed to enjoy their meal as much as I enjoyed mine, and everything I saw on any ones plate looked great. They are only open for breakfast and lunch, but they do cater. I know you will enjoy your visit to Country Cottage, and think it would be a great place to take out of town visitors for a nice, casual meal. You can visit them on www.CountryCottageaz.com, and see their menu’s. Go say hi to Linda, and tell her “The Mayor” sent you.

I went to the opening of a unique business in Gilbert today, Red Eye Media. What was great about this business is that it is in the business of helping other business grow. The idea is they put 42 inch plasma TV Screens in high traffic areas like restaurants, bars and clubs and run a loop of advertisements. There is no sound so there is no disturbing the business, but the graphics are exceptional. If you are looking for an advertising channel that isn’t over done visit http://www.redeyemediaphx.com and see what they can do for your business.

An extremely popular restaurant in Gilbert is Flancer’s Cafe. I recently had lunch there and the food was excellent. I started off with the Goat Cheese Bruschetta, breaded goat cheese with Roma tomato marinade and balsamic vinegar. Then I had the Ace of Clubs, real turkey breast cured ham, bacon, provolone cheese, tomato, lettuce and it has New Mexican Green Chile mayonnaise really gave the sandwiches a great flavor. Their Sandwiches are amazing. The bread is homemade and all of the sandwiches are packed full. If you are watching what you eat they also have accommodations like making your sandwiches into a lettuce wrap or a whole wheat wrap. I also had some of their famous homemade lemonade, it was really good. Flancer’s also has great salad, pizza, pasta, hamburgers and dessert. It has a great local feel and everyone was so friendly. Flancer’s Cafe is open from 10:30am to 9pm everyday. It is located at 610 N. Gilbert road, south of Guadalupe on the West side. You can also reach them at (480) 926-9077 or www.flancers.com
Gilbert Days Parade and After Party

One of the great events in Gilbert every year is the Gilbert Days Parade. This year we had 144 entries as well as yours truly, and my lovely wife. One thing different this year was the after party which included local entertainment as well as a Chili Cooking contest. I was flattered to be a judge and impressed with the different chili presentations. I am clearly going to have to rethink the chili recipe that made me the chili cooking king of boy scout troop 68 in 1962. If you missed the parade and after party, there is still time to catch the Rodeo this weekend. It is great living in Gilbert, and Gilbert days is just one of the reasons why.
November 2008 Student Citizens of the Month

In 1987 I created the Student Citizen of the Month Award. As a former high school teacher I thought it was time we recognize not just the athletes and scholars, but the regular just good kids. The criteria for selection for this award is behavior based, period. I don’t care if a kid is Captain of the Foot Ball Team and a straight A student, the only thing that counts on this award is how they treat others. If your child wins this award, you really have something to be proud of.

On November 6th Old World Pizza Kitchen had their ribbon cutting ceremony and I was honored to be invited. It was a great celebration and we were able to take some great pictures. The restaurant was packed full of customers and everyone was raving about how wonderful the food was. Old world Pizza Kitchen is family owned, run by Jim and Gina Donnelly. All the pizza’s are made in their old world style brick oven, giving them a great taste. They have a great menu from Appetizers, salads and pizzas to desserts and wine. I have never seen so many unique pizzas. You can order by your pick of toppings or pick from their specialty pizzas like Veal Marsala, Shrimp Pesto, Broccoli Bianco, and more. I had the Shrimp Scampi Pizza (succulent shrimp in flavorful lemon and white wine scampi sauce) which was excellent. The atmosphere is a high-end yet comfortable feel without it being expensive.
They are a great addition to Gilbert . I had a wonderful time and I really recommend trying Old World Pizza Kitchen. They are located at 323 S. Gilbert Road, Suite 111. You can reach them at (480) 633-6975 or www.oldworldpizzakitchen.com and see their menu.
